Synopsis
Twins Jason and Julia Covenant, aged eleven, move with their family to Villa Argo, a large house on a cliff above Kilmore Cove, a quiet village in Cornwall. The gardener, Nestor, tells them about the house and its past, and they make friends with a neighbour, Rick Banner. In one room they find a scratched, charred wooden door that has lost its keys and is meant to stay closed. When their parents leave for London, the children are left alone in the house with strange noises overhead and the door in front of them. They begin to ask why someone wanted it hidden, and what lies behind it.
