Synopsis

The third and concluding novel of The First Law trilogy weaves together its remaining storylines as the war reaches its climax. Logen Ninefingers, alongside Bayaz's company, faces one final battle in the war-torn North against King Bethod's forces, while in Adua the ailing King of the Union nears death amid mounting unrest among nobles and peasants alike. Meanwhile Bayaz, the First of the Magi, works behind the scenes to avert a looming war that threatens to reach the heart of the Union itself, drawing Sand dan Glokta and Jezal dan Luthar deeper into the political maneuvering surrounding the crown. As the Northern campaign and the crisis in Adua unfold in parallel, the characters' separate struggles converge toward the trilogy's resolution.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The First Law (trilogy): position 3 of 3: previous Before They Are Hanged (2007)
