Synopsis

Liar's Oath, the sequel to Surrender None, continues the story of Gird's peasant rebellion against the mageborn rulers, focusing on Luap, one of Gird's most devoted followers, who is secretly the illegitimate son of a mageborn king. Luap has sworn to renounce his royal heritage and never claim a throne for himself, a vow that sits at the heart of his loyalty to Gird's cause. When Luap later discovers a distant, abandoned sanctuary in the western mountains once inhabited by the elder races, he is confronted with the temptation to break his oath and claim rule over this newfound realm for himself. The novel follows Luap and those who choose to follow him as they grapple with the pull between the ideals Gird stands for and the lure of personal power, setting up consequences that echo forward into the world Paksenarrion later inhabits.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Legacy of Gird): 2 novels (1990, 1992); a prequel duology, not a trilogy despite occasional casual references, dramatizes the rebellion of the legendary founder-saint Gird, set centuries before Paksenarrion's own era (exact gap unconfirmed by any source checked).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
