Synopsis

Little Thieves opens the trilogy with Vanja Schmidt, a former maid who has spent the past year impersonating Princess Gisele using a set of enchanted pearls, leading a double life as counterfeit royalty by day and the notorious jewel thief known as the Pfennigeist by night. Arriving at a manor for an anniversary celebration hosted by a count and countess who believe their home well guarded against the thief's recent string of robberies among the nobility, Vanja sees the evening as another opportunity to profit at her hosts' expense. When her long-running deception finally catches up with her, she is cursed by her estranged godmothers, Death and Fortune, to slowly turn into jewels, and must find a way to make amends for her thefts before the curse consumes her entirely.
