Synopsis
Ella Milana, an unsettled substitute teacher of language and literature, returns to her hometown of Rabbit Back as her father's dementia worsens. The town is known for its Literature Society, founded by the world-famous children's writer Laura White, who long ago promised to train ten gifted children as writers but found only nine. Ella is invited to become the long-awaited tenth member. Soon odd things begin to happen around the society's winter party, and Ella starts to dig into the group's past, using a risky parlour method called the Game to draw out secrets. The novel mixes mystery, magical realism and fantasy, and plays with how writers use real lives as material.
