Synopsis
The youngest Price sibling, Antimony, goes undercover in a stage magicians' circuit to infiltrate a group with ties to the monster-hunting Covenant. Using her family's skills to pass herself off as a fellow performer, Antimony joins a travelling troupe of stage magicians in order to get close to individuals she suspects of working with the Covenant of St. George. Balancing the demands of learning genuine stage magic with the far more dangerous work of gathering intelligence on the Covenant's activities, Antimony has to maintain her cover among performers who have no idea of the real stakes involved, all while staying alert to the possibility that the Covenant may already be watching the troupe.
Where it sits
- Universe: InCryptid
- Series: InCryptid core; position 6 of 15 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Seanan McGuire
Notes
- From the series record (InCryptid): Multi-generation cryptozoologist family (the Prices/Hayleighs) vs. the Covenant of St. George; DAW. A 16th novel is anticipated by some third-party listings but is not announced on the author's own bibliography page, and is not registered (Article 2). McGuire has also published 50+ further InCryptid short stories/novellas (anthologies, bonus content, Patreon); deliberately deferred as Expanded Canon out of scope, per the same scale-driven deferral this project already applied to Oz's Famous Forty continuation books.
Neighbouring works
Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series InCryptid: position 6 of 15: previous Chaos Choreography (2016) · next Tricks for Free (2018)
