Synopsis
My mother named me Reason. For fifteen years Reason Cansino has lived on the run: together with her mother, Sarafina, she has moved from one place to another in the Australian countryside, desperate not to be found by her grandmother Esmeralda, a dangerous woman who believes in magic and practises horrifying dark rituals. When Reason is sent to live with Esmeralda, nothing about the house or her grandmother is what she expected, and the moment she walks through Esmeralda's back door and finds herself on a New York City street, she is confronted by an unavoidable truth: magic is real, and Reason is magic. The first book of the trilogy, winner of the Andre Norton Award.
