Synopsis
In the city-state of Navola, the di Regulai family has nurtured a merchant-banking empire for generations; though they claim not to be political, their wealth buys cities and topples kingdoms. Davico di Regulai, sole heir to the fortune, must take his place beside his father and prove himself worthy of the name, but his heart is soft where it should be hard, and he prefers sunlit hills and forests to his family's schemes. Something else calls to him: a fossil dragon eye, a relic of raw power that sits on his father's desk. As plots unfold, armies march and assassins slip through marble halls, Davico's survival comes to depend on the powers locked in the dragon eye and on his adoptive sister Celia, whose own family was destroyed by Navolese politics.
