Synopsis

A companion novel to Moreta, Nerilka's Story retells events of the same plague crisis from the perspective of a young noblewoman, Nerilka. The unloved and overlooked daughter of Lord Holder Tolocamp, Nerilka has spent years being passed over for marriage and treated as useful mainly for household chores, while her more favored half-sisters receive their father's attention and better prospects. When the plague begins spreading across Pern and her father refuses to send aid to the suffering hold of a man she was once meant to marry, Nerilka defies him and sets out on her own to help, using skills in healing and organization that her family never valued. Her journey runs parallel to Moreta's efforts at Fort Weyr, showing the same crisis from ground level as ordinary people struggle to cope with the disease's spread.

Notes

  • From the series record (Moreta / Nerilka): A duology set generations before the original trilogy ('Sixth Pass' era).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
