Synopsis
The eighth Valdemar anthology collects sixteen original stories set in Velgarth, the wider fantasy world that contains the kingdom of Valdemar, where Heralds "Chosen" by mysterious, horse-like Companions use gifts such as Mindspeaking, FarSeeing, and ForeSeeing to protect their homeland. Alongside stories by Mercedes Lackey, the volume features work from multiple guest authors, including Stephanie D. Shaver, Dayle A. Dermatis, Brenda Cooper, Elizabeth A. Vaughan, and Jennifer Brozek. As with the rest of the anthology series, many entries connect to ongoing character miniseries from earlier volumes, ranging from continuing storylines like the Wil and Lelia series to new introductions such as the Healer Vixen stories, together forming a varied set of independent adventures rather than a single overarching narrative.
