Synopsis
In this first volume of The Dark Is Rising sequence, siblings Simon, Jane and Barney Drew spend a family holiday in Cornwall, staying in a house shared with their mysterious Great-Uncle Merry, whom they know as Merriman Lyon. While exploring the attic, the children discover an old map that points toward an object connected to Arthurian legend, one that could serve as a powerful weapon for the forces of Light in an ancient struggle against the Dark. Their search for the artifact sends them on a quest that leads them, in keeping with the map's own cryptic phrasing, over sea and under stone, as they gradually realize the danger their find represents.
