Synopsis
Pahua Moua is an eleven-year-old Hmong girl who hides her ability to see spirits. When she accidentally frees a malevolent spirit from a haunted bridge near her home, her younger brother falls into a sleep from which he cannot be woken, and she fears the spirit has taken his soul. She returns to the bridge with her aunt's old shaman tools, but instead of facing the spirit she summons a demon. A young warrior shaman named Zhong rescues her, and the two set out through the spirit worlds, which are home to spirits, dragons and a fire spirit that lives in a stove, to find a lightning ax and bring her brother's soul back. Along the way a spirit cat joins her, and Pahua learns more about who she is.
