Synopsis

In the third volume of Pan Lodowego Ogrodu, the two long-separate narrative threads that have run through the series begin to finally intersect: Vuko Drakkainen's ongoing investigation into the missing scientists and the magical workings of the planet Midgaard, and Filar's struggle to survive amid the political chaos following the collapse of his empire. As the storylines edge closer together, both characters find the scope of what they are dealing with widening, with implications that reach beyond their separate, previously isolated struggles. The volume builds toward the convergence of Drakkainen's and Filar's paths that the series has been working toward across its first two books.

Notes

  • From the series record (Pan Lodowego Ogrodu): A Polish special-forces operative is sent to a planet where an earlier human expedition went missing; the world's own people practice real magic, and survivors of the earlier expedition have themselves become powerful magic-workers pursuing rival visions of a new order. Genre-boundary note: critical and encyclopedic consensus (the SF Encyclopedia) treats this as a science-fantasy hybrid -- a science-fiction first-contact frame around a setting where magic genuinely operates as the central plot engine -- the same kind of borderline case this project has already admitted elsewhere (Pern) rather than excluded.
