Synopsis

Blue fire sears the face of Faerûn, leaving the twisted and mutilated dead in its wake, but a rare few escape death and suffer some mystical mutation. Raidon Kane is one of them: the Spellplague burns the sigil of the amulet he wears into his chest as a sapphire tattoo, binding him with all its power and responsibility, and leaves him with strange powers against aberrant monstrosities and eleven years of his life missing, spent encased in crystal. With everyone he cared about dead, Raidon must find the strength to lead the fight against the rise of an elder evil, the Abolethic Sovereignty, which means to reduce the world to chaos with an artifact called the Dreamheart, seeking a weapon forged by those who fought it before, in the spellplague-ridden Plaguewrought Lands. The first book of Bruce R. Cordell's Lovecraftian trilogy.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Internal chronology, within Forgotten Realms: position 37 of 215: previous Unbroken Chain (2010) · next Horselords (1990)
