Synopsis
A man named Anton Marivaldi, rescued from drowning by an aquatic priestess named Tu'ala'keth, is told he's been chosen by the sea goddess Umberlee to help restore her followers. To accomplish this mission, the pair must investigate and stop a cult attempting to transform dragons into dracoliches before their rage devastates the Sea of Fallen Stars.

- Universe: Forgotten Realms
- Series: The Priests ; position 4 of 4 in the series' recorded order
- Author: Richard Lee Byers
Notes
- The Priests #4. A priestess entangled with a sea-goddess-adjacent power struggle (specific deity attribution not independently confirmed).
- From the series record (The Priests): A 4-novel series (2004-2005) of standalone novels each following a priestess of a different Faerunian deity, one per author (Mistress of the Night co-authored by Dave Gross & Don Bassingthwaite); corrects a mis-recollection that placed this a decade earlier (1995-1998). The specific deity each volume centers on could not be independently confirmed beyond title-level inference and is left unstated rather than guessed. Registered 2026-08-18.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
- Publication order, within the series The Priests: position 4 of 4: previous Maiden of Pain (2005)
- Internal chronology, within Forgotten Realms: position 168 of 215: previous The Mage in the Iron Mask (1996) · next Errand of Mercy (1998)
