Synopsis
Beauty and her two older sisters, brave Lionheart and clever Jeweltongue, grow up in comfort in the city with their merchant father, each named for the gift she shows; Beauty's is for growing things, above all roses, whose scent reminds her of her dead mother. Then their father loses everything, and the family retreats to Rose Cottage, a small house in the country that Beauty finds among his papers, where the sisters learn, to their surprise, to be happier than they were rich. Beauty coaxes the cottage's dead rose thickets back to life, and its garden becomes the heart of a village that has forgotten roses. When her father, lost on a journey, takes shelter in an enchanted palace and plucks a rose for Beauty, she must go in his place to the Beast who lives there, whose dying roses and haunted house she alone may be able to heal.
