Synopsis
The concluding Monarchies of God novel opens sixteen years after the events of The Second Empire, with the series' surviving characters aged and a new generation coming into its own: Corfe now has a young daughter, Mirren, by his wife Odelia, while Jemilla's controversial son Bleyn has grown into a young man with his own claim on the throne. As an enormous enemy army gathers at Charibon with its sights set directly on the capital of Torunna, King Abeleyn presses forward with an equally audacious response, building the mightiest fleet the world has ever seen to sail west and confront the evils Richard Hawkwood's earlier voyage first uncovered there. With no character's survival guaranteed and the series' long-running conflicts finally coming to a head, the stakes facing the western kingdoms surpass anything the earlier volumes had prepared them, or their readers, to expect.
