Synopsis

Son of a Witch picks up some years after the events of Wicked, in an Oz thrown into unrest by followers who rally around the cry that Elphaba lives, refusing to accept the Wicked Witch's fall. The novel follows Liir, a young man of uncertain parentage who was present during Elphaba's final days, as he tries to piece together his own connection to her legacy while navigating a politically turbulent land still reeling from her death and the power vacuum it left behind. Moving through a fractured Oz shaped by the first novel's events, Son of a Witch traces how Elphaba's story continues to ripple outward through the lives of those who knew her, even as official Oz tries to bury her memory.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Wicked Years): Complete four-novel quartet (1995-2011) reframing L. Frank Baum's Oz from the witches' side, beginning with Elphaba's life story. Wicked is the basis for the hit Broadway musical and 2024/2025 film adaptations. A separate, unrelated work from this project's already-admitted L. Frank Baum Oz universe (a deliberate retelling of it, not the same underlying continuity).

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings, but they resolve to the exact same sequence for this book, so one combined line is shown instead of two identical ones.
