Synopsis

In Stranger at the Wedding, young wizard Kyra begins receiving a series of troubling premonitions, starting with a vision of blood and an ominous tarot reading, that eventually crystallize into a specific and alarming warning that her sister will die on her own wedding day. Determined to prevent the tragedy, Kyra returns to the family and social circles she left behind when she pursued wizardry, a world where she is regarded with suspicion for her magical training. As she works to intervene before the wedding, Kyra discovers that talking an eager, strong-willed bride out of her own marriage proves, in its own way, a far harder task than any supernatural threat she has faced, forcing her to rely on wit rather than magic to head off the danger.

Notes

  • From the series record (Windrose Chronicles): Complete Del Rey/Ballantine portal-fantasy quartet (1986-1994) following computer programmer Joanna Sheraton and wizard Antryg Windrose between our world and the magic-vs-technology setting of the Empire of Ferryth (Stranger at the Wedding is a same-universe standalone following a peripheral character). Confirmed a separate, unrelated universe from this author's already-admitted Darwath and Sun Wolf/Winterlands series.
