Synopsis
The Adventures of Mary Darling reimagines the world of Peter Pan from the perspective of Wendy's mother. When Mary Darling's three children vanish from their beds one night in Victorian London, she immediately suspects Peter Pan, the same boy who had once spirited her away as a child years earlier, though no one around her believes her account. Her husband, alarmed and skeptical, brings in her uncle, Dr. Watson, who in turn enlists the famous detective Sherlock Holmes to investigate the disappearance, but Holmes grows suspicious that Mary herself may be involved. Refusing to simply wait on the men's investigation, Mary sets out on her own journey across a British Empire-spanning world to find and rescue her children from Neverland, gathering unlikely allies from colonized peoples along the way as the novel reworks the assumptions of both the Peter Pan and Sherlock Holmes stories.
