Synopsis
The Butcher of the Forest is a 2024 dark fantasy novella in which Veris Thorn, the only person ever known to have rescued a child from the cursed wood called the Elmever and lived to tell of it, is summoned before the tyrant who now rules the land bordering that wood. Years after her first, harrowing venture into the forest, she is given a single day, twenty-four hours, to retrieve the ruler's two missing children before the Elmever's power claims them for good, a task made no less dangerous by her prior experience surviving it once already. Forced back into a wood whose rules and horrors she remembers all too well, Veris must draw on hard-won knowledge and no small amount of luck to navigate the Elmever's dangers a second time, fully aware that surviving it once offers no guarantee she will manage it again.
