Synopsis
While on an archaeological expedition, Arthur Finch discovers a magical cube of red stone that gives whoever holds it the power to dream himself into any world he pleases. Dissatisfied with his own world, Finch sets out in search of utopia, using the cube to enter one alternate society after another, among them a world of unrestrained individualism and a world ruled by science. Each turns out to have its own absurdities, and the comic adventures, written as social satire, carry him further from home while the question of whether he can ever find his way back to his own world runs beneath them all.
