Synopsis
Sand, a blacksmith's apprentice, would rather work metal than go to university as his father wishes. He wakes in the Sundered Castle with no memory of how he arrived, ringed by a wall of thorny brambles that will not let him leave. Inside, nothing grows and nearly every object has been smashed or torn in two. To survive, Sand starts mending things at the forge, and his repairs turn out better than they should. His work brings back Perrotte, a girl of thirteen who once lived in the castle and has been gone for more than twenty-five years. Together they try to put the castle right, which seems to be the only way to be free, while her past and a knight approaching through the thorns complicate things.
