Synopsis
The City in Glass, published by Nghi Vo in 2024, follows Vitrine, a demon who has watched over the city of Azril for centuries, quietly recording the lives of its people in a book she carries with her at all times. When a company of angels descends on Azril and slaughters every one of its inhabitants, Vitrine loses in a single stroke the city and the community she has spent centuries chronicling and loving. In her grief and fury she curses the angels' leader, binding a fragment of herself permanently within him even as she has no way yet to undo the destruction he has caused. The novel follows Vitrine's long, painstaking effort to rebuild Azril from ruin, and the strange, unwilling bond she now shares with the angel responsible for its destruction.
