Synopsis
On a dark winter's night in 1970, two art collectors, Horley and Grinstead, huddle for warmth in the Senior Common Room of an Oxford college, and their conversation turns to the two impressive works Horley has recently added to his collection, a portrait painted some seventy or eighty years earlier and a bronze. Grinstead, startlingly, says he knows who the woman in the painting is. What the two men do not know is that the pieces are connected in mysterious and improbable ways, and that they are about to be caught in the crossfire of a story that has travelled across time and worlds, one that touches Mrs Coulter. Written for Audible and first released in 2014 as an audio original read by Bill Nighy, and later published in print.
