Synopsis
The empire of Rheinvelt is in trouble. A strange statue hints at coming darkness, the Hierophants, its powerful magic users, have fled, and shadowy beasts gather along the borders as war threatens. Young Prince Alphonsus has a clock in his chest where his heart should be, and it runs backward toward a fate nobody can name. Sent to calm his anxious people, he meets Esme, a Hierophant girl who is searching for the sorceress known as the Nachtfrau. They distrust each other at first, but riddles from their shared past point toward the same answers. To protect the empire, the two must learn to trust one another and solve those riddles before time runs out.
