Synopsis

Jim Eckert, now accepted within the dragon community despite spending most of his time as a human feudal lord and apprentice magician, faces a crisis when his magical mentor Carolinus is attacked by an unknown and formidably powerful sorcerer and nearly killed. At the same time, word reaches Jim that the French are preparing to invade England, having forged an alliance with a mysterious and dangerous ally that turns out to be a host of vengeful sea serpents seeking retribution against dragonkind. Jim must simultaneously try to identify Carolinus's attacker, investigate the French-serpent invasion plot, and head off open war between dragons and their far more numerous serpent rivals, all while juggling the competing demands of being a lord, a husband, a fledgling magician, and an honorary dragon at once.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Dragon Knight): Nine-novel portal-fantasy series (1976-2000) about Jim Eckert, a modern graduate student pulled into a parallel fantasy world and transformed into a dragon, who must navigate a mixed cast of dragons, knights and magical creatures to rescue his fiancee. Opened with a British Fantasy Award-winning novel expanded from a 1957 short story; completed with the ninth volume in 2000, before Dickson's death in 2001, no further installments planned or announced.
