Synopsis
God's skull hangs in orbit above Times Square, and its presence has set off the Abulic Plague, a deadly epidemic. Each victim is haunted by a personal fetch, a double that tries to lead its victim to the grave. Nora Burkhart, a schoolteacher, learns that her young son Kevin has caught the disease. She sets out through a changed country toward Coatzacoalcos in Mexico, where a doctor is said to have a cure, and meets Gerard Korty, a sculptor building a massive brain sculpture from an asteroid fragment. Anthony Van Horne, the captain from the first book, sails her across the Gulf of Mexico.
