Synopsis
The Everlasting centers on Owen Mallory, a scholar who returns home from war and receives a long-lost manuscript recounting the life of Sir Una Everlasting, an orphan-turned-knight of the nation of Dominion who died a legendary hero for queen and country centuries earlier. Rather than simply translating the old text, Owen finds himself pulled bodily into Una's story, addressing her directly across time as the narrative shifts between his voice and hers. Tasked with guiding Una through the events that will eventually make her famous, Owen begins traveling with her through different periods of her life, and his view of her shifts from that of a distant historical symbol to a living, complicated person. The novel follows their entwined journey as Owen tries to understand what the legend of Una Everlasting leaves out.
