Synopsis

The Fall of Babel is the fourth and final novel of The Books of Babel, picking up the separated storylines of Thomas Senlin and his companions as the tower's ringdoms are engulfed by open conflict. Senlin finds himself trapped aboard the siege engine commanded by the zealot Marat as it tears through the ringdoms toward the Sphinx's hidden domain, while his adoptive brother-in-arms Adam discovers a strange, seemingly utopian city near the tower's summit whose inhabitants unsettlingly already know his history. Meanwhile Edith and the crew of her airship, the State of Art, must contend with a changed and estranged Voleta, who now appears to stand with Marat's forces. With Marat's zealots advancing on the Sphinx and the power held there, the novel follows Senlin's attempts to undermine the assault from within even as old allies find themselves scattered and at odds.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Books of Babel): A complete four-novel sequence; Senlin Ascends and Arm of the Sphinx were originally self-published (2013/2014) before a 2018 trade re-release by the same author under an established publisher, per the print-edition-first convention.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
