Synopsis
In Eileanan victory has been won, and those of faery kind, from dragons to the mysterious nyx, have sworn their friendship and aid. Only the sea-dwelling Fairgean have refused to sign the Pact of Peace: driven by ancient hatreds, they have devoted themselves to destroying all who dwell upon the land, and a seer has prophesied that with the rising of the red comet, the Red Wanderer, they shall come, and the scaly sea will rise and flood the land. As the time of the comet draws closer, Lachlan and Iseult try desperately to avert that fate, testing their strength and love to the utmost, while Iseult's flame-haired twin, Isabeau, must face her most difficult challenge yet, for if she is to heal the land she must first heal her own troubled spirit. The final book brings the long war between the land-dwellers and the Fairgean to its conclusion.

- From the series record (The Witches of Eileanan): Kate Forsyth's six-book Celtic epic fantasy (Pan Macmillan Australia, 1997-2002; Roc in the United States, where the first volume is titled The Witches of Eileanan): a land where witchcraft has been outlawed since the Day of Reckoning, the apprentice witch Isabeau and her ancient mentor Meghan of the Beasts, and the struggle to restore the Coven and the lost Lodestar.
