Synopsis
On his deathbed Ezylryb tells Soren and Coryn to read three hidden books of legend. The first tells of Grank, a spotted owl of the Northern Kingdoms a thousand years earlier, who befriends the wolf Fengo in the Beyond, becomes the first collier and finds the Ember of Hoole, while hagsfiends and a traitor lord threaten the kingdom of his friends King H'rath and Queen Siv.
