Synopsis
Findabhair and her cousin Gwen, one Irish and one from across the Atlantic, have always believed in magic and the Otherworld, and they plan a summer backpacking around Ireland to the sites of the old legends, hoping to find a way into Faerie. Where better to begin than at royal Tara, seat of the High Kings of Ireland? Defying an ancient law, they spend the night in the sacred mound there, and when Gwen wakes, Findabhair is gone, carried off by Finvarra, the King of Faerie, who wants her as his bride. It is the summer of the Hunter's Moon, a dangerous time for mortals who meddle with Faerie, and Gwen learns that unless she can rescue her cousin before the moon rises, Findabhair will be offered to the Great Worm. With the help of the wise woman of Inch Island and others, Gwen sets out across Ireland in pursuit. The first of the Chronicles of Faerie, winner of the Ruth Schwartz Award.
