Synopsis

The Kagonesti opens the Lost Histories series and traces the origins of Krynn's wild elves. It follows Kaganos, a wood-dwelling elf who breaks from the elven ruler Silvanos as Silvanos leads most of the elven people toward building glittering, ordered cities. Kaganos and his followers choose instead to remain close to nature, forming the tribe that becomes known as the Kagonesti. Across generations spanning the turbulent Age of the Dragon Wars, the tribe endures pressure from expanding human settlements and the forces serving the Dark Queen, relying on guidance from a line of revered pathfinders to survive. As the wider world grows more hostile to their way of life, the wild elves are pushed toward a defining reckoning over whether their culture can endure or will be lost entirely, framing the deeper history behind the wild elves familiar from later Dragonlance novels.
