Synopsis

Inar is Master Builder for the Kingdom of Mishig-Tenh, a man with an extraordinary feel for stone. Life has been hard since the kingdom lost its war against the League of Free Cities, and harder still since his father was found to have betrayed the king, revealing a weakness in the capital's walls, and paid the ultimate price. Now the king's terrifying chancellor and torturer-in-chief has ordered Inar to go and work for the League, and to spy for him. Far away, Anton, a Blade Priest of Craithe, the God Mountain, chosen from infancy to perform human sacrifice, is secretly relieved that the practice has been stopped, but the monstrous custodians of the Mountain demand its return, an ancient enemy has returned, an occult conspiracy is unfolding, and a vicious internal war threatens to tear his religion apart. Their paths are slow to cross, and others prove to hold more power over their world than either imagined.
