Synopsis
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, published in 1950, opens The Chronicles of Narnia by following the four Pevensie siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, who are sent to live in a large countryside house after being evacuated from London during the Second World War. Exploring the house on a rainy day, Lucy steps into an old wardrobe and finds it leads to Narnia, a magical land trapped in perpetual winter under the rule of the tyrannical White Witch, who has ensured it is always winter and never Christmas. As the other siblings eventually follow her through the wardrobe, they are drawn into Narnia's plight and the growing signs that the Witch's long hold over the land may finally be challenged.
