Synopsis
In the third book of the series, Rowan comes to learn that Slado, one of the wizards whose secrets she has spent two books trying to uncover, is working spells of terrible and far-reaching power that threaten both the Inner Lands and the Outskirts alike. Her investigation is complicated and enriched when she is reunited with Janus, a former steersman she had believed long lost, whose own knowledge may help her understand the true scope of what Slado is attempting. Rowan must weigh what she learns from him against the danger of continuing to pursue answers the wizards have killed to protect.

Notes
- From the series record (The Steerswoman): A planned 7-book sequence; 4 published so far. Admitted transparently on the same genre-boundary basis as Dragonriders of Pern/The Book of the New Sun: shelved and marketed as fantasy, but the setting gradually reveals a lost-technology, post-catastrophe science-fictional explanation for its apparent magic.
