Synopsis
Kay Harker is a young boy who lives at Seekings House, in the care of a governess, Sylvia Daisy Pouncer, who is secretly a member of a coven of witches. His great-grandfather, the seafaring Captain Aston Tirrold Harker, once owned a fortune that was stolen from him, and Kay sets out to find it. A band of witches led by the wizard Abner Brown is hunting for the same treasure, and Kay has to outwit them. On his night-time adventures he is helped by talking animals, most notably Nibbins, a cat who has given up the witches' service, and by a supernatural helper called Caroline Louisa. The book moves between the house, the countryside and a dream-like world of pirates and magic.
