Synopsis
Shadow Moon has been away from America for nearly two years, his nights broken by dangerous dreams; sometimes he almost believes he does not care whether he ever returns home. His wanderings have brought him to the north coast of Scotland, to the Highlands, where the sky is pale white and it feels as remote as any place can be. There the beautiful and the wealthy gather at a grand old house in the glen, and when a strange local doctor offers him work at their party, as a bouncer for the weekend, Shadow is intrigued. He knows there is no good reason for him to be there, so what do they want with him? The first of Neil Gaiman's novellas following Shadow after American Gods, first published in 2003 and reissued as an illustrated edition.
