Synopsis

Molly and Kip, two young Irish siblings, flee the poverty of their homeland and travel to England, where they hope for work. They arrive at a crumbling manor, which stands beside a huge, dying tree, and talk their way into jobs as servants. The family inside is pale and withdrawn, and the house has strict rules and strange habits. Molly, who tells stories to keep her brother calm, begins to notice that the tree seems connected to the household's decline, and that the children are not safe either. She must decide what she can risk to protect her brother and find out what the tree wants.
