Synopsis
The Ocean at the End of the Lane, published in 2013, follows an unnamed middle-aged man who returns to his childhood home in rural Sussex for a funeral and finds himself drawn to the neighboring farm at the end of the lane, where he begins recalling a series of strange, long-buried events from forty years earlier. Those memories center on Lettie Hempstock, a girl who lived on the farm with her mother and grandmother and who insisted that the small pond on their property was in fact an ocean, and whose family seemed to know far more about the world's hidden dangers than anyone else nearby.
