Synopsis
The Other Wind, the fifth Earthsea novel, follows the village sorcerer Alder, who is plagued by dreams of the restless dead, including his deceased wife, calling to him from beyond the low stone wall that marks the barrier between the living world and the dead. Seeking answers and relief from the dreams, Alder travels to consult the former Archmage Ged, now living quietly on Gont, and is then sent onward to the court of King Lebannen on Havnor, where Tenar and her adopted daughter Therru are also present. His arrival coincides with growing unrest as dragons begin incursions into the archipelago's western islands, attacking settlements in ways unseen for generations, and Lebannen's court must weigh Alder's unsettling dreams against this parallel crisis as the two threats increasingly appear to be connected.
