Synopsis
For Milo, everything is a bore. When a tollbooth mysteriously appears in his room, he drives through it only because he has nothing better to do, and on the other side he finds himself in the Lands Beyond and the divided Kingdom of Wisdom. In Dictionopolis, the city of words ruled by King Azaz the Unabridged, he learns that Azaz and his brother the Mathemagician, ruler of Digitopolis, banished their adopted sisters, the princesses Rhyme and Reason, to the Castle in the Air, and that since then the land has had neither rhyme nor reason. With Tock, a ticking watchdog, and the Humbug, Milo sets out to rescue them, visiting the Island of Conclusions, which one reaches by jumping, and the Doldrums along the way, and discovers that life is far from dull. Norton Juster's 1961 classic, illustrated by Jules Feiffer, has sold almost five million copies.
