Synopsis

The Raven Scholar introduces Neema Kraa, a gifted scholar of humble origins who has joined the Raven path, one of eight monastic orders within the empire of Orrun, despite facing setbacks because of her common birth. As Emperor Bersun's twenty-four-year reign nears its end, the empire's monasteries prepare to send contenders into trials to determine his successor, and Neema, who has recently gained standing at court after assisting with a delicate matter, finds herself pulled close to the competition. When the Raven order's own contender, Gaida, is murdered with a cursed blade, a grave crime given the trials' sanctity, Emperor Bersun orders Neema to investigate the killing while naming her the emergency replacement competitor. Neema must now navigate the dangerous imperial trials against formidable rivals, including the favored Tiger contender Ruko, all while searching for the truth behind Gaida's death.
