Synopsis

The second book of Richard Lee Byers's Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy, which explores the ancient secrets of dragon society in the Forgotten Realms. Its covers, with those of the trilogy's other books and of the companion anthology Realms of the Dragons, form a four-panel painting by Matt Stawicki that can only be seen whole when the books are placed together. The anthology fleshes out details of the trilogy, with stories by R. A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, Elaine Cunningham and Byers himself.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

• Publication order, within the series The Year of Rogue Dragons: position 2 of 3: previous The Rage (2004) · next The Ruin (2006)
• Internal chronology, within Forgotten Realms: position 109 of 215: previous The Restless Shore (2009) · next Night Masks (1992)
