Synopsis
The Royal Ranger opens a new arc within the Ranger's Apprentice series set years after the main sequence, finding Will Treaty grieving a personal loss and reluctant to take on new responsibilities. Circumstances nonetheless bring him an unexpected apprentice in Princess Madelyn, known as Maddie, whose royal upbringing has left her unprepared for the demanding, self-reliant life of a Ranger but who proves determined to learn. As Will reluctantly begins training her in earnest, the two are drawn into investigating the death of a fellow Ranger under suspicious circumstances, a case that leads them toward evidence of an organized slave trafficking operation preying on vulnerable people across the kingdom. Balancing Maddie's royal status and her desire to be treated as an ordinary apprentice, Will works to both train her properly and unravel the scope of the trafficking ring before it can claim more victims.
