Synopsis

The Ruin of Kings opens A Chorus of Dragons in the empire of Quur, following Kihrin, a thief and the son of a minstrel who grew up scraping by in the city's slums. After a botched raid leaves him marked by a demon, Kihrin is unexpectedly claimed by a noble house as the long-lost son of a treasonous prince, and his life among the aristocracy proves to be less like the heroic stories he grew up hearing and more like a gilded imprisonment. Drawn into the schemes and rivalries of his new family, Kihrin discovers that much of what he believed about dragons, demons, gods and prophecy is wrong, and that an ancient prophecy many assume points to a savior may instead be pointing at him for a far darker purpose, as gods, demons and dragons all move to claim him for their own ends.
