Synopsis

The Rule of Names is set on Sattins Island, where the unassuming wizard Underhill lives quietly in a hilltop cave. His peace is disrupted when a mysterious stranger arrives seeking a treasure allegedly stolen by a dragon, leading to a shapeshifting magical confrontation that turns on the power of true names.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
