Synopsis
In Yellow Rome, the magician Vergil accidentally touches a Vestal Virgin while trying to stop her from falling from a tipping carriage. That is a crime in Rome, so he flees with pursuers behind him. His journey takes him through Naples and Corsica and out to sea, where the pirate Hemdibal, who calls himself Josaias, King of Carthage, repeatedly threatens him. He reaches the Region of Huldah, where he falls in love with its ruler. Later he visits the island of the Lotus-eaters and drinks the nectar of the scarlet fig, then travels on through Mazequa and Tingitayne toward the Land of Stone.
