Synopsis
The Serpent Sea is the second novel in The Books of the Raksura series, continuing directly from The Cloud Roads. Moon, once a solitary wanderer, has settled into the Indigo Cloud court as consort to the sister queen Jade, and the court travels by flying ship in search of a new home after the losses of the first book. When they reach Indigo Cloud's ancestral home, a colony built within an immense tree, they discover the tree is dying from a blight at its core and find signs that intruders have stolen the heartstone needed to heal it. Moon joins a group of hunters sent across the Serpent Sea to recover the heartstone, a journey into unfamiliar and dangerous territory that tests the fragile new court's ability to survive.
